How to Clean a Dog Bed in Stephens City, Fairfax County, VA to Protect Your Carpet & Avoid Pet Stains & Odors

Man’s best friend is truly an excellent addition to any family. Their protective, loyal, and unconditional love can bring joy to most people. They are adorable little critters that often bring a mess with them. Between pet stains, odors and just the filth they can track in from outside, they add excitement and a little work to the day, but they are so worth it. Today, we at ADC Carpet Cleaning Specialists would like to share some tips on advice on cleaning their little beds to avoid transferring those contaminates on your carpet, tile, or hardwood floor.

How to Clean a Dog Bed

1. Vacuum. For starters, use the handy attachments for the vacuum hose and thoroughly remove the debris of hair/fur, dirt, and other particulates. A lint roller can pick up the stubborn hair/fur embedded in the dog bed’s fibers.
2. If the exterior fabric cover can be unzipped, do so and toss in the wash machine as long as it is washing machine safe. Be sure the washing machine setting is set to a large load setting, with cold water, and the detergent is safe for pets. Avoid adding other fabric or clothing in the same load. Repeat the wash cycle if the bed is especially dirty.
3. Dry the freshly laundered dog bed liner in the dryer. Add a minimum of 1 dryer sheet, making 100% sure it is safe for pets. The dryer sheet is ideal as it greatly reduces the static electricity and helps prevent the pet hair/fur from building up. Dry on a low temperature setting for 20 minutes to remove hair and wrinkles and excess moisture. Allow the cover to air dry the remainder of the time to avoid shrinkage.
4. Clean the interior bed foam, pillow, or cushion according to the label. If no label gives specific directions, and you need to kill odor, try this method. For washable foam and pillow beds, fill the tub with cool or lukewarm water add ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar and 1/8 cup of laundry detergent. Submerge the foam/pillow in the tub mixture and work the soap in the foam with your hands, be sure to focus on the concentrated stained areas. Let the foam/pillow soak for approximately 15 minutes. Drain the water, after the bulk of the water is drained, squeeze the remainder of the water from the foam. Fill the tub with cool, clear water and submerge the foam/pillow and rinse the soapy water out of the pad. Drain the water and squeeze the water from the foam/padding. If possible, allow the foam to dry outside under the sun.
NOTE: Be sure to always follow the labels directions on proper cleaning procedure to avoid shrinking or compromising of padding or fabric cover. Do not use scrub brushes on foams as it could damage the foam.
